Police discover mini arsenal

A 60-year-old man was taken into custody by El Cajon police after a probation check uncovered more than 100 firearms in his Lakeside home.

John Fencl was arrested June 28 after detectives conducted a “a prohibited persons probation check” in relation to an April arrest in which Fencl was booked during a traffic stop and found to be in posession of a loaded firearm.

At the time Fencl was on probation for a similar charge and was prohibited from posesseing firearms. He was arrested but released on bail.

During the June arrest police found more than 100 rifles, assault rifles, shotguns and handguns in addition to body armor, tear gas grenade, silencers and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Fencl is charged with numerous felonies, including possession of firearm silencers, and illegal assault weapon sales.

Currently in custody, Fencl was to appear in court this week.
