Singing her way into the hearts of people at the El Cajon Library Branch on Saturday, Davies threw her all into the small venue, giving everyone a tasty sample of her nostalgic versions of the jazz classics, some comedic folk tunes and her original songs. Her blended version of “My Sweet Valentine” captivated the audience and in closing her entire show was “Unforgettable” as much as her rendition of the song itself.
Whether accompanied by her mandolin, singing acapella, or adding her kazoos into the mix, Davies is a performer through and through. Her smooth tone is as soothing as it is powerful (though you would never guess with her soft spoken voice).
Accompanied by her long-time friend and golden-fingered guitarist Aaron Mahn, the two set the stage for an interactive an entertaining afternoon.
Davies is no stranger to San Diego. With three CDs in her repertoire, the San Diego Music Awards nominated “Galaxy Lakes” for Best Jazz Album in 2011 and she topped the awards as the Best Jazz Artist 2012.
Touring San Diego County Libraries (SDCL) in its Summer 2013 San Diego County Library Acoustic Showcase, all concerts are free to the public and you can catch Davies next performance on July 16 at the new Lemon Grove Library Branch at 6:30 p.m.
Founder of the SDCL Acoustic Showcase series Ross Moore said the Showcase originated as a way to introduce people to the various local talents that San Diego has to offer. He said there is a special treat in this years’ program, with a touring performance from Norwegian singer Marjit Vinjerui, who he said though not local, the Showcase is privileged to have performing this summer.
