It’s a jungle in there and parents like it

Welcome to the jungle, and who can better teach jungle life to a 4-year-old than Stephanie Boeck. What can she teach? Techniques on how to steal a basketball without a foul, she boasts.

Where? Jungle Gym & Cafe in Santee. Manager Stephanie, a small business multi-tasker, is a basketball coach, volleyball coach, pizza baker, and more — changing hats more than a customer in a hat shop. Jungle Gym & Café opened up in mid-August and is steadily building their customer base. However this is not just a gym with aerobics classes for parents with a daycare room on the side.

This is more a play center for kids plus a café with a birthday party room as well. Plus more. “This is a great place to get ready for a nap,” soon-to-be father of two Santee resident Efrain Alvarado pointed out, “Not to mention it’s a great place to stay out of the heat,” which his 2-year-old son Ethan appreciates in a region that can kick in with some high temperatures now and then. Rainy days would also be perfect fit for Jungle’s indoor playground.

Any parent who used to take their energy filled child to Sea- World’s Shamu’s Happy Harbor playground to burn off that kid electricity knows the technique Efrain is talking about. Parent lives to tell — kid is ready for nappy time. The huge airplane and bouncy house are just a part of the offerings for kids: chess classes, basketball classes, books to read, small and large nets for an “all ages” volleyball session.

However, the membership can be used merely to bring the kids in to let off steam with parents working on their laptops on the side. They offer both a sweet and sweat situation for parents, so to speak. Babies can get in free with a paid sibling on a day pass at a starting rate of $8.
