Grossmont College is a world-record holder, too.
Entering its second half-century serving the education needs of the greater East County region, Grossmont College exited its first 50 years with a year-long celebration during the 2011-12 school year, capped by an open house celebration back on April 14.
During the festivities, students, faculty and staff, and the public were invited to sign a “birthday” card for the school — a massive, 4-foot structure, which eventually gained more than 1,800 signatures from well wishers.

During the festivities, students, faculty and staff, and the public were invited to sign a “birthday” card for the school — a massive, 4-foot structure, which eventually gained more than 1,800 signatures from well wishers.
According to officials with Guinness World Records in London, the card is a record for signatures gained on a single card.
“Setting the record is like icing on the birthday cake of our yearlong celebration of Grossmont College’s first 50 years,” said Grossmont College president Sunita “Sunny” Cooke. “We are grateful for everyone’s support for our college and helping us set the record.”
