El Cajon mother sentenced to 27 years for drug charges

An El Cajon mother awaiting trial in the death of her infant son has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Jessica Quezada, 24, admitted her role in a separate drug investigation in which her husband, Israel “Izzy” Soto, 31, is also awaiting trial on federal drug charges.

Jessica Quezada, 24, admitted her role in a separate drug investigation in which her husband, Israel “Izzy” Soto, 31, is also awaiting trial on federal drug charges.

The couple is also awaiting trial on May 11 in El Cajon Superior Court for felony child endangerment involving the July 27, 2013 death of their 4-month-old son, Giovanni, who was left overnight in their car following a shopping trip and not found until 1:30 p.m. the next day.

The baby was not breathing and was rushed to a hospital where he died. Both have pleaded not guilty. Soto remains in jail.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Anello imposed 27 months for Quezada after a prosecutor sought a 63-month term. Quezada’s attorney, John Cotsirilos, said she played a minor role in the drug scheme and he asked for a 15-month sentence.

Hearing set for school assistant who barricaded students in closet

An April 13 preliminary hearing is set for Linda Lira, 31, an afterschool assistant at Lemon Grove Academy who is charged with false imprisonment of students when she barricaded herself in a classroom.

The incident took place March 25 when Lira allegedly prevented students from leaving a classroom, claiming there were demons outside, undressed and re-dressed herself. A student used a campus radio to call for help.

Lira pleaded not guilty March 30 to three counts of false imprisonment and one count of resisting arrest. She remains in the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on $500,000 bail.

Preliminary hearing set for house painter accused of shooting sports director

An April 30 preliminary hearing has been set for an El Cajon house painter accused of attempted murder of CBS News 8 sports director Kyle Kraska in a Feb. 10 shooting inside his Mercedes outside his home.

Kraska, 48, was shot six times and was rushed into surgery, but was   released Feb. 18 from the hospital and is back on the air. Mike Montana, 54, agreed to delay his preliminary hearing recently in San Diego Superior Court.

Montana has pleaded not guilty and remains in jail without bail. If convicted of premeditated attempted murder, Montana faces 37 years and eight months in prison.
