No one does it better than East County

First of all let me say that the Spring Harp Fest in La Mesa over the weekend was a blast to go to. I wish I could have stayed for the entire day, because the level of rhythm and blues performers had people rocking in their seats and dancing in any open space available.

First of all let me say that the Spring Harp Fest in La Mesa over the weekend was a blast to go to. I wish I could have stayed for the entire day, because the level of rhythm and blues performers had people rocking in their seats and dancing in any open space available.

The talent displayed by the performers and the open competitions was phenomenal and I could easily write a raving review on every act I was able to watch. Watch for this next year, because if you love the blues you will love this event. I’m already wishing it were more than once a year and La Mesa is a perfect location, although as crowded as it was they might want to start looking at a larger facility, because the crowd packed Griffin Park’s amphitheater.

The same goes with the Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve’s Spring EGGstravaganza. Thousands of people attended and everyone was having a blast. As soon as I arrived, Anita Bautista, who has been with the Preserve for 25 years, enthusiastically greeted me. After speaking with her for quite a while, I can see why she was Santee’s Citizen of the Year in 2011. Her love of the lakes and this event was clearly evident in her exhilarating spirit. (Anita, I have your photos and you have my card, so contact me!)

Coming up…

Western Days in Lakeside

I am excited about the rodeo coming up. It is not only non-stop action, but the week is filled with events geared towards the community. In builds up to the Lakeside Rodeo with Western Days, beginning this Saturday, April 11, you can start the celebrations with a chance to win some tickets and meet the Rodeo Queens at Boot Barn in El Cajon at 12:00 p.m. Then head over to Parkway Plaza Mall, meet the Rodeo Queens, practice your ropin’ skills and meet with Buffalo Chip the Rodeo Clown. Follow up the day at the Optimist Western Days Bar-B-Q at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds from 5:30-8:30. And it is important to note that all of the volunteer work done by the El Capitan Stadium Association and the Lakeside Optimist and the monies raised go straight back to the kids in our community. And their reach goes beyond the Lakeside borders.

On Wednesday, April 15 is the first chance to see the infamous BUDWIESER Clydesdales from noon to 5:00 p.m. If you have never had the chance to see these magnificent creatures up close there are three chances other than their performance at the rodeo to catch a glimpse.

10th Annual Duncan L. Hunter Wounded Marines Golf Classic

It is time again to start signing up for this annual event held at the Cottonwood Golf Club in El Cajon. It is a time honored tradition to help our wounded warriors in need at the Naval Medial Center San Diego. And 100 percent of entry fees, raffle tickets, silent and live auction items and any other contributions go straight to the Wounded, Injured, and Ill program, that is distributed by the San Diego Armed Services YMCA.

This tournament has set a goal this year to raise a minimum of $100,000 for the program. And the cost is more than reasonable at $99 per golfer. So make your reservations for a foursome of golf for a great cause by contacting Joe Browning at JoeBrowning@hotmail.com or (619) 212-9186.
