Board names new Santana principal

Brian Wilbur

The Grossmont Union High School District Governing Board recently named Brian Wilber as the next principal of Santana High School. Wilber will officially take the position June 1.

Wilber has worked with the district for four decades, beginning his career as a Math and Computer Studies teacher at Mount Miguel and Granite Hills high schools. During his tenure, Wilber served in a variety of roles, including Director 1 of Alternative Education, child welfare, attendance, extended curricular programs, Student Support Services, West Hills High School principal, Human Resources director, Foothills Adult Center principal, and Director 1 of Extended Curricular Programs. Wilber retired from GUHSD in 2021.

“When Mr. Wilbur was asked to serve as Santana’s Interim Principal while retired from our District, he had no intention of taking on the job permanently,” said GUHSD Superintendent Mary Beth Kastan in a press release. “However, he shared during the interview process that he fell in love with Santana, its outstanding staff, and the Sultan community. That’s why I firmly believe we’ve found the right person to carry forward Santana’s great 59-year tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts.”
