Foothillers ranked fourth among boys teams

The boys lacrosse rankings are starting to take shape and East County definitely has a foothold among the San Diego Section’s top teams with the Grossmont Foothillers holding down the No. 4 ranking among 39 teams entering this week.

The Foothillers’ 9-2 overall record, 7-0 in league, led all seven Grossmont Conference teams.

Granite Hills and Grossmont tied with 11-1 league records to share the 2014 league championship. The Foothillers have since carved out a rather remarkable run with 12-0 league finishes in 2016, 2018 and 2019, an 11-0 run in 2017 and 8-0 showing in 2015.

Grossmont defeated archrival Granite Hills, 18-2, on April 27 for bragging rights to the league lead this spring.

Among East County teams, Foothills Christian (3-1) entered the week ranked 12th while Santana (8-4) was ranked 13th, followed by Granite Hills (4-3) in the No. 14 spot.

Valhalla (5-3) came in at No. 21 to just miss the top 20 cut.

Cathedral Catholic (7-0) entered the week ranked at the top of the section rankings, followed by No. 2 La Costa Canyon (7-1) and No. 3 San Marcos (9-1).
