Thirteen East County teams qualify for San Diego Section girls volleyball playoffs

The chase is on for this year’s San Diego Section division titles in girls volleyball — seven to be crowned overall in Open, Division I, Division II, Division III, Division IV, Division V and Division V-AA.

The volleyball playoffs started with first-round play in Division I, Division III and Division V-AA on Tuesday. First-round play continued with Division II, Division IV and Division V on Wednesday. The Open Division quarterfinals and Division V-AA quarterfinals were slated Thursday.

Quarterfinals in Division I and Division III are Friday, Nov. 1, while quarterfinals in Division II, Division IV and Division V are Saturday, Nov. 2.

Semifinals in Division I, Division III, Division V-AA and Open are Nov. 5. Semifinals in Division II, Division IV and Division V are Nov. 6.

Championship games are divided between three sites Nov. 7-9.

MiraCosta College will host the Division V-AA final on Nov. 7 and the Division III, Division IV and Division V finals on Nov. 9.

Southwestern College will host the Division I and Division II finals on Nov. 8.

The University of San Diego will host the Open Division final on Nov. 9.

All section Open Division teams, Division I semifinalists, Division II and Division III finalists and Division IV and Division V champions qualify for the state regional playoffs. Division V-AA champions will not advance at this time.

Qualified local teams include No. 3 Christian, No. 4 El Capitan and No. 14 Helix in Division I, No. 8 Granite Hills in Division II, No. 3 Foothills Christian, No. 5 Santana, No. 9 West Hills and No. 13 Steele Canyon in Division III, No. 6 Grossmont, No. 9 Liberty Charter, No. 10 Mountain Empire in Division IV and No. 4 El Cajon Valley and No. 12 Monte Vista in Division V.
