“It tastes better because it was a blessing” said Kenya Henry who along with 24 other families received a Thanksgiving basket of food the weekend before Thanksgiving from a coordinated effort of Mandate Project Impact, Open Heart Ministries and Momma B’s Outreach. The event was titled “Thanksgiving and a Song” and was held at Spring Valley’s Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church.

Twenty-five families were selected to receive those turkey baskets according to MANDATE. Records’ Sena Williams, a Brand Marketing Manager. Williams’ husband, Reginald, was one of the performers. Reginald Williams is a producer, composer and a performer with Chris White.

“They partnered up together (the three organizations) to choose and those names were submitted and families were notified” said Williams.

“The baskets included a turkey, gravy, dressing, cake mix, potatoes, onions, yams, green beans, pie crust, eggs, and corn” continued Williams, “The food was packed in nice, new reusable laundry baskets.”

Sena Williams cited that three performances, the song part of the event, were done with MANDATE’s recording artist’s Evangel, Chris White, and Reginald Williams (with back-up musicians) appearing on the church’s stage.  Williams estimated the attendance at 40.

“Money was shy so it was really helpful (to receive a basket)” explained recipient Kenya Henry.  “I was surprised and it was cool. We didn’t have a turkey.”

“I love it when people give to people less fortunate.  It brings healing to the soul.” commented Liberty Temple’s Pastor Mark Garza “It was good we were able to participate in this event.”

Williams also pointed out that the Faith Chapel Community Orchestra would be performing seasonal, classical and spirituals at a show on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. The orchestra is a 55-member symphony with strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.
