Well another year of voting for your favorite places, restaurants, businesses and the people that make it all happen is coming to an end. Our last entries are being accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, so you only have about a week to make sure that you get your votes in for your choices.

So far, we are getting a great response, but I know that there are many out there that have not cast their ballots and we are making it as easy as possible for you. You can either fill out the form on the back of our issues, or go online at www.eccalifornian.com and cast your votes there.

This is a highly anticipated event for us here, our readers and people that work hard in our community to make it a better place and I am anxious to see who makes first and second place in each of our categories. There are always some great surprises and I love the fact that these people and organizations are voted on by their peers.

It is crunch time, so please make the effort to place your vote. Here at the Californian, we are extremely happy to be holding a Best of East County reception for all the winners on Feb. 9 at one of East County’s treasures, the Olaf Wieghorst Museum in El Cajon. I believe they are as excited as we are and are bending over backwards to make sure that is an event that is befitting the best that East County has to offer. It is also a past winner of our Best of East County Reader’s Poll. It is an excellent venue that says East County like few others and central enough that any of our community winners should be able to attend.

I am looking forward this year in personally congratulating our winners, get a chance to know them, and in the mix of it all, pick up some great community stories.

There is something to be said about being voted best at anything when it comes from the community that you serve. It means that whether you are a waitress or a CEO, someone or something has touched the hearts of many in the community. And that is what Best of East County means to me. Making a difference and people taking notice.

And that surely deserves recognition.

So let’s get this party going. Vote for your favorites in all of our categories and let us know who or what are your favorites places to dine, go on a date, a hike, a riding trail, your favorite waitress, bartender, beautician, museum, non-profit and the list goes on. Let’s get them the recognition they deserve.

I know that they will appreciate it and I am looking forward to highlighting your picks for the Best of East County.
