Kid’s special and new programs:

Chinese Storytime Wednesdays 1:30 p.m.

Learn about Chinese culture. Every Wednesday: Stories in Mandarin and English. There will be also music and crafts for kids’ ages 5-11.

Kindergarten Gear Up Wednesdays and Thursdays 10:00 a.m.

10 session series designed to help children develop skills that will prepare them for kindergarten. Each week will focus on a different theme. Registration is required; please call the library for more information 619-443-1811. The program is geared for children ages 4-5.

Thursday, Oct. 5 – 3:30 p.m.: My Masterpiece with Andy Warhol for STEa.m. Explorers

Come learn about the artist, Andy Warhol, and try to paint like he did. For kids in grades K-5.

Tuesday, Oct. 17 – 6:00 p.m. Pajama Storytime at the Lakeside Library    NEW!!!

Friday, Oct. 27th – 3:30 p.m. Kids Career Day – One Year Anniversary at Bilingual Storytime

Come and meet Michael, a chiropractor who works with bones and nerves. He will teach us how our bodies move and feel. Spanish/English stories, songs, rhymes and craft for children 3-11. Light snacks will be provided.

Saturday, Oct. 28th – 11 a.m. – Keyip! Kechuw! Listen! Make! Native American Storytime

Come listen to a Native American-themed story and make a special craft. Perfect attendance prizes will be awarded, snacks will be provided at each meeting. Program is for kids in grades K-2. This program is in partnership with the Barona Cultural Center and Museum.

Come for some fun, food and meet new friends. For teens, grades 6 – 12. Light refreshments are provided.

Friday, Oct. 13 – 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. Halloween Teen Lock-In for Teen Read Week

Teens grades 6-12 are locked in the library for some Halloween fun, food and adventure. Come dressed up in your favorite costume for a chance to win a prize. Parental permission required to attend.

TAG Meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 17 – 3:30 p.m.

Come meet new friends and have input on what would be best for the teens at the Lakeside Library. Help plan programs for teens you are interested in and earn volunteer hours while you participate. Refreshments are provided. For teens grades 6-12.

Teen Anime Club Tuesday, Oct. 24 – 4:00 p.m.

Halloween Teen Tuesday, Oct. 31 – 3:30 p.m.

Teens going into grades 6-12 can come to meet new friends, make a craft and enjoy refreshments. Fun for teens after school and trick-or-treat at the library. Decorate some pumpkins.

Adult’s special Programs: 

Community Resources Table Monday, Oct. 2 and 16 – 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

Every first and third Monday 2pm to 4pm Lakeside library hosts a community resources table. Two Homeless Outreach workers from McAllister Institute will provide information and resources regarding your questions about affordable housing, substance abuse help, legal aid, food assistance and more. Families, single persons, teens and veterans are welcome.

Check Your Mood Day Thursday, Oct. 5 – All Day-

Resource materials are available all day for questions regarding your mental and emotional wellness.

Essential Oils Part 3 – Fragrances and Holiday Gifts Saturday, Oct. 7 – 2:00 p.m. 

In this third DYI session about essential oils with Suz and Beth from Labor of Love – Lakeside Community Garden show us how we can bring essential oils to our holidays – as mood-setting fragrances or self-made gifts for our loved ones.

Department of Child Support Services – Info table Thursday, Oct. 19 – 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Tony the Movie – Film Screening and Q&A Wednesday, Oct. 25 – 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Learn about the challenges of homelessness and how the region of San Diego can address the issue. Meet Dennis Stein, the filmmaker, and Tony Rodriguez, featured in the film. There will be a Q&A with Dennis Stein and Tony Rodriguez following the film. Learn about how to solve homelessness in San Diego. 

Zentangle Fll leves Craft Saturday, Oct. 28 – 2:00 p.m.

In our third Zentagle class, Janet Masey will show us how to create beautiful fall leaves for holiday cards for example. For teens and adults. R.S.V.P.

Regular Adult Programs:

One-on-One Computer Help Wednesdays 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and Fridays 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Computer instruction for beginners – individual tutoring 30 minutes one-on-one sessions. Reservation is required – please also indicate in advance what you want to learn. We can cover: basic computer, Internet, e-mail, downloading e-books on your devices and other topics.

Bingo Night ever fist and third Wednesday 6:00 p.m.

Kaffeeklatsch – Book Discussion with coffee and snacks Tuesday, Oct. 24 – 11:00 a.m.

Due to great demand, Kaffeeklatsch is back from a summer break. Join us for book talks and snacks.

Lakeside Book Club Thursday, Oct. 26 – 4:00 p.m.

Lakeside Book Club will discuss the One Book One San Diego 2017 pick: The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bojahlian.

Family Programs:

Rock Painting Tuesday, Oct. 3 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 21 – 1:00 p.m.

Facebook has a site called “Lakeside Rocks”. We will be painting rocks to hide throughout the world. When other people find the painted rocks, they take a picture and post on FB and re-hide the rock.

Halloween Challenge & Trick or Treat 3:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Find all the jack o lanterns hidden throughout the library, and get a treat. Take a picture in our photo booth. Come and trick or treat at the library.
