Ted Womack, 32, is traveling to Geneva to share his story of racism suffered at the hands of law enforcement.
According to Alliance for San Diego, a non-profit agency that promotes inclusivity in democracy, Womack and several others are responding to a recent UN report that found pervasive systemic racism against people of “African descent.”
“I’m 32 years old and I’ve been stopped more than 100 times by police in San Diego who racially profile me, search me, and threaten me with violence. That is not the future I want for my son, who is not only Black but also on the autism spectrum. I am afraid that if the police do to him what they have done to me, he will be harmed. The racial profiling, the warrantless searches, the threats of violence, all of it violates human rights. It’s time for the United States to respect our rights and our dignity,” said Alliance San Diego’s Womack.
