Public Square Coffee House starts live entertainment

“This is an After Hours event,” said La Mesa’s Public Square Coffee House’s Aaron Henderson. The After Hours event featured four bands playing in the coffeehouse on Dec. 30.

“We’ve been here over a year.  We just had our anniversary in November,” said Henderson.

The coffee house is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday, and in addition to coffees that feature toasted marshmallows it also has a whole variety of coffees to offer.  Their luncheonette menu offers homemade sugar scones, wow wow waffles, chia pudding, a baked egg & tomato dish, and also lists sandwiches such as a carnitas sandwich among other menu items.

“I feel we can compete with North Park,” said Blake Dye, the music coordinator and avenue manager for the coffee house.   Four local bands:  Sights and Sages, Fashion Jackson, Little Heroine, and Ignant Benches entertained the crowd for the evening.  Timothy E. Pyles, with 91X, was on hand to introduce the bands.

“I went to California Jam (1974). That was the music of those times. This venue is the rock and roll of the future,” said Timothy Damrick, who was enjoying the younger, Indie rockers’ music. 

“Their lighting, the ambience, their top-notch coffee makes for a hootin’-hollerin’ time” said Michael Shannon.  He is an east county resident and member of the band, Little Heroine.  “This is the first time I’ve played here but I am a frequent customer.”

Sights and Sages recently announced that their song “Aghori,” on their first album, was the 91X – San Diego local break” song for December. Little Heroine’s “Emoji” song can be viewed on YouTube.  Alternative/indie rock lovers can live stream Ignant Benches on social media. Fashion Jackson can be found on SoundCloud among other sites.
