Padres to host prep all-star baseball game on June 24

The San Diego Padres High School All-Star Baseball Game will return for a third time to Petro Park on Thursday, June 24.

A home run derby will kick off the event at 5:30 p.m., followed by the nine-inning game at 6 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased online at Padres.com/hsallstars. A ticket to a future Padres game will be included.

Rosters are being split between East and West teams.

East County will be well represented at the event.

East team selections include Monte Vista righthanded pitcher Andy Canedo, Steele Canyon outfielder/infielder Weston Clark, Santana outfielder Cole Contreras, Steele Canyon catcher Jake Entrekin, Steele Canyon shortstop/righthanded pitcher Sebastian Granados, Santana outfielder/lefthanded pitcher Tyler Glowacki, Grossmont third baseman/catcher Isaiah Gomez, Granite Hills righthanded pitcher Noa Ponciano,  Christian outfielder/righthanded pitcher Braden Ross, Granite Hills outfielder/righthanded pitcher Austin Smith, Grossmont lefthanded pitcher/outfielder Evan Vasiliou and Grossmont righthanded pitcher/first baseman Jaden Wilcox.

Foothills Christian’s Kip Famolaro and Mountain Empire’s Jacob Nolan were selected as alternates while Granite Hills’ Grant McArthur was among the original selections.

Several members of this year’s all-star class have already made college commitments: Entrekin (Point Loma Nazarene), Granados (CSU Northridge), Glowacki (San Diego State University), Ross (CSU Northridge), Smith (UC San Diego) and Vasiliou (UC Irvine).

Santana’s Rigo Ledezma will serve as West team head coach while Oceanside’s Dave Barrett will direct the West team.

The All-Star teams and home run derby contestants were selected by the San Diego Section baseball advisory committee on May 10.

The first Padres High School All-Star Baseball Games was played in 2018 with a 7-7 tie between the teams. The West team defeated the East team, 7-3, in 2019.

The event is among the most highly anticipated ones to cap the high school baseball season and will follow in the wake of this weekend’s San Diego Section divisional championships at Poway and Eastlake high schools.

Grossmont received the No. 3 seed in the Open Division while Santana received the No. 7 seed.

Top seeds in other divisions included Granite Hills in Division I, Christian in Division III and West Hills in Division IV.
