Wine, music, good friends and a great cause once again brought the arts community together for a great cause. Patrons filled the Olaf Wieghorst Museum in El Cajon for its Annual Welcome to the Holidays Luncheon on Nov. 17 to give continuing support for daily operations of the museum and to help reach the goal in its new remodeled design. Beginning with a champagne and wine social, the ability to purchase opportunity drawings and a Chinese auction gave them ample time to drop their tickets for some incredible auction items.

And all in the setting of one of El Cajon’s legacies, Olaf Wieghorst, with his stunning early American West portrayals, still prominently displayed and enjoyed.

With a holiday theme, auction items included many beautiful and unusual holiday decorations and gift baskets, art, jewelry and other items that were distinct and individual in nature.

Olaf’s Posse was there to ensure that everyone had a great time, and as always added a lot of flavor to an already wonderful lunch provided by Cupid’s Catering. It quickly became a fun afternoon and there were plenty of items that all were extremely pleased to have won in the Chinese auction.

The Wieghorst Western Heritage Center is one of East County’s premier galleries and its displays change on a regular basis, but Olaf is always in the forefront. Considered the “Dean of Western Painters” his legacy promotes awareness and appreciation of the culture, history and the tradition of the American West through art.
