Owner, Michael Rizq not only has Zumba scarves but Indian saris, belly-dancing garments, evening and beauty pageant wear, and much more.

Owner, Michael Rizq not only has Zumba scarves but Indian saris, belly-dancing garments, evening and beauty pageant wear, and much more.

“I have over 600 dresses,” Rizq said. “I serve all kinds of customers in the community—Americans, Chaldeans, Indians, Mexicans, Middle Easterners.”

While people make jokes about wearing chandeliers at parties Layla’s has actual candle chandeliers that a belly dancer can wear for dancing with. It is a dazzling headpiece.

The store has been in El Cajon for five years. Many of the dresses have intricate beading and gems adorning them.

“The dresses can take up to two weeks to sew,” said Rizq.

Customers’ comments on Layla Boutique’s guestbook on Face Book note how well they regard the selection they can find there. Layla’s has great reviews and is well known as a place to go for Middle Eastern and belly dancing wear. Rizq said he get customers from Los Angeles that come to his store to buy belly dancing wear.

The wedding accessories range from elaborate ethnic veils to gem encrusted wedding stilettos.  Saying yes to the dress is common in the store for wedding parties, but its extensive styles of formal wear range from ball gowns, mermaid, and can be the perfect place for that sexy black cocktail dress.

The perks of having such a store for Rizq are trips to Las Vegas or elsewhere to designer showcases and attending belly dancing competitions or events. Rizq said his dresses run 30 percent less than elsewhere.

While the boutique is not your typical midwestern bridal shop it does offer traditional dresses and a customer can order dresses out of catalogues on hand.
