Dear East County families, is it Fall again? We are happy to offering two concerts this month at Lakeside Library, introducing you to the Lakeside’s River Park Conservancy, inviting you to a chat with the Sheriff, giving information on how to best grow your winter crops organically and providing lots of Halloween fun!

Saturday, Oct. 1st – 2 p.m.

Meet Cindy Collins from the Lakeside’s River Park Conservancy

Their mission is to preserve and restore the biological integrity and beauty of the San Diego River while integrating recreational, educational, and cultural opportunities for youth, seniors, families and citizens of East San Diego County.

Friday, Oct. 14 – 1 p.m. and Tuesday, October 18th – 6 p.m. DMV Test Prep Class

Lakeside Library is offering classes to help prepare for the Department of Motor Vehicles written test. The class is free and will cover information from the California Driver Handbook, videos and written tests with review.

Saturday, Oct. 15 – 2 p.m. – Concert with the Faith Chapel Community Orchestra String Quartet

The String Quartet will play inspirational titles like “The Heavens are Telling” by Haydn, “Emperor Walt”z by Strauss, “Cha Cha Cha” by Richard Braun, “Tijuana Trolley Ride” by M. Pappin, and more.

Thursday, Oct. 20 – 6 p.m. – Coffee with the Sheriff

The Lakeside’s Sheriff Substation is holding a coffee hour with the community. This gives the public a chance to chat with the Station’s command staff, deputies and Crime Prevention Specialist in a casual setting and exchange ideas and concerns.

Saturday, Oct. 22 – 2 p.m.

Concert with the Streamline Sax Quartet. Enjoy an hour of contemporary music, Jazz and Latin with Harvey Tellinghuisen and his Streamline Sax Quartet.

Saturday, Oct. 29 – 2 p.m. – Country Living: Growing your Winter Veggies the Organic Way

California is blessed with 2 crops a year. Now, in October it is time to start planting your winter crops like root veggies, peas, lettuces, spinach for example. Lilian Kiefer from the local “Labor of Love” Community Garden is here to show you the best ways to grow you winter crops organically.

Monday, Oct. 31 – 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Halloween Fun at the Library

All Day: Costume contest and Halloween Challenge. Come in your costume, and take a picture at our photo booth. The Lakeside Friends of the Library have gift cards for the first 3 winners. Find the all the Jack o Lantern’s hidden throughout the library, and get a treat.

3:30 p.m. – Halloween Cake Walk

4:00 p.m. Monday Movie Matinee – with a (moderately/PG rated) SCARY MOVIE.
