Good horsemanship. That is just is one of the criteria that the five contestants in Lakeside’s Miss Bulls Only Rodeo Queen Pageant 2014 were judged on.

Held on March 8, on the Lakeside Rodeo, Ashley McDonald, earned the title.

Bob Patterson, Lakeside Optimists Club (pageant sponsors), said the young women had to, “Prove they can ride a horse, are good at communications, and know rodeos.”

Patterson said the pageant is a weeks long process with the women doing rodeo riding plus—even taking tests.

Getting your cowgirl on culminated not in beauty pageant dresses, but colorful dressy western wear dresses plus their cowgirl hats. Peers voted Kala Ferguson for Miss Congeniality, Old Timers, and Marketing.  Brielle Rainney received Best Test Award.  Pick Up Man Award went to Brittany Miller, Rookie Award to Tiffany Dobransky.  Bestowed upon 2014 Miss Bulls Only Rodeo Queen Ashley McDonald were Best Speech and Miss Horsemanship awards.

The club’s Bulls Only Rodeo XVI will be July 18 and 19 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds and announced the First Annual Bulls and Barrels Rodeo this November.
