East County, Touch, The Law of Attraction Masters…, The buzz ladies- East County, are a few of the groups specific to the East County area.
“It started as a healing journey” Kat Dupree explained on how, two and a half years ago, she started a Meetup group named the San Diego Harley Davidson and Cruiser Riders. “My boyfriend died and he left a Harley.” Shortly thereafter Dupree organized the meetup to do rides and the members and activities have helped her heal from the grief.
Dupree, recently, was on site at the Lakeside Burger King, the meeting spot awaiting other riders. The meetup group was heading up to Wynola’s Daily Perc in Julian to participate in an open mic for musicians.
Dupree’s riders came from all points in the County—El Cajon, Miramar, San Diego, and other bedroom communities. Hence the meetup groups can bring “tourists” to the East County area and to the businesses that court or woo them can benefit from what could be loosely described as a flash mob.
“The website has gone thru changes but now it is more user-friendly,” Dupree reasoned.
Typically an alpha dog/leader type will organize a group on the website, have others interested in those activities join their group, and then pay nominal dues and a possible fee for any specific activity.
“We’ve done taco nights….many other road trips…” Dupree further elaborated with some of the member juants.
While the “Touch” group may have home based meetings other groups solely go to restaurants, movies, bars…you name it for legal activities. There does appear to be a goodly number of third –fourth generation hippie type meetups with psychics, aura reading, and open-minded themes with their meetup groups.
Sky diving and other sporty activities such as surfing exist too. Meetup provides a way to search the computer and join in communal events that bring tourists to some areas and even healing with a side of fun to individuals like Dupree. Go Kat go ….speed rider.
