Letter to the Editor-Proposition 64

Dear Editor,

Proposition 64,  would legalize all marijuana in California, not just medical marijuana.   Californians have the benefit of learning from the lessons of legalization in states like Colorado and Washington.

Dear Editor,

Proposition 64,  would legalize all marijuana in California, not just medical marijuana.   Californians have the benefit of learning from the lessons of legalization in states like Colorado and Washington.

Since legalizing marijuana in Colorado, Denver’s marijuana traffic related deaths increased by 48 percent, emergency room visits by 49 percent, poison center calls by 100 percent, and homicides by 14.7 percent over the previous year. Illegal drug traffickers and cartels were better able to hide among the State’s flourishing legal marijuana industry.

Washington State fared no better with a 19 percent increase in DUI cases testing positive for THC since 2012.”  In a five-month period Seattle public schools reported 77 percent of all drug and alcohol disciplinary violations were related to marijuana.  Marijuana poisoning calls to their State Poison Center rose 54 percent from 2012 to 2014.”

Don’t let the tragedies of legalization be in vain.  Vote NO on Prop 64 to protect our children and communities.

Sincerely,

Sandy Pitman
