While schools throughout the state have been shut down to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, a coronavirus that has reached pandemic proportions, school districts throughout the county have adopted programs to provide meals to students who have been forced to stay home amid campus closures. Schools such as La Mesa Arts Academy have adopted daily schedules to provide meals with the aid of volunteers and community members. On Tuesday State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond wrote, in part: “Due to the current safety concerns and needs for ongoing social distancing, it currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the school year.
