Noah Homes, a non-profit organization in Spring Valley that has provided life changing services for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities for over thirty years, hosted a kick-off event to celebrate their plan to build the first memory care homes in California for adults with developmental disabilities who are fighting against Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other issues related to aging.
When finished, the two memory care homes Noah Homes is planning to build would be the first of their kind in California. While additional funding will still be needed before full construction begins, this inspiring project has already attracted the participation of many community partners. HomeAid San Diego, Murfey Construction, UCSD Down Syndrome Center, and San Diego Regional Center are a few of the community leaders who will share their time, treasure, and talent to make this dream come true.
On Jan. 23, Noah Homes invited its community partners, elected officials, friends and families of Noah Homes, and its residents to the kick-off event.
Molly Nocon, CEO of Noah Homes said, “We don’t need these homes today, we needed them yesterday, and I am proud to see that the leaders of San Diego recognize the urgency. There are far more families looking for a place like Noah Homes for their loved ones than we have room available and we are working hard to change that.”
State Senator Joel Anderson, whose district includes Spring Valley, attended the kick-off event and presented a Senate Certificate of Recognition to Noah Homes for their outstanding dedication and exemplary service to adults with developmental disabilities.
“I am grateful to Molly Nocon and her team for their tireless efforts to ensure that adults with developmental disabilities live with the dignity, freedom, and respect they deserve,”
Anderson said. “Molly Nocon is leading the effort to create California’s first memory homes for adults with developmental disabilities to ensure that they will have opportunities to remain independent. Molly is a blessing to our community and is a shining example of compassionate service to all.”
Sunshine and laughter filled a beautiful day in Spring Valley at the kick-off ceremony, and the Noah Homes staff and residents and community partners all seemed motivated to work hard to meet their fundraising goal in order to start the building process of the much needed and anticipated memory care homes.
