St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center held its 45th Annual Haute with Heart Fashion Show on Aug. 19 at the Hilton Bayfront in downtown San Diego. This year’s theme, Fashion in Paradise, gave guests an echoing experience of the grandeur of Paris, as SMSC students and professional models walked the runway, with live music, silent and live auctions, in which June Rubin and family provided a $40,000 matching gift. SMSC serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The annual event is dedicated to raising funds for SMSC and its innovative programs, such as its Activity Center, Adult Developmental Center, Behavior Modification Program, and Senior Program. The center’s Life Program allows students to develop creative outlets, learn marketable skills, and gain a sense of independence and self-esteem. Over 400 students attend SMSC, ranging from high school graduates to seniors in their eighties.

“This year’s Haute with Heart was another success, and we are grateful for the amazing support from all who attended. We were so excited to bring Paris to San Diego through fashion, food, and music. This event is much more than just fashion and fun, it contributes to our programs that support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” said SMSC Executive Director Debra Emerson.
