El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives 51st Congressional District on March 1. The office is currently held by Democrat Rep. Sara Jacobs. Wells said he was excited to announce his candidacy in this race.
“I have spent my entire life serving this community, and I am eager to bring that same level of dedication and passion to Congress. The residents of the 51st District deserve a representative who will fight tirelessly to strengthen our economy and our national security, and I am committed to being that representative.
“I am running for Congress because I believe that our country needs bold, assertive leadership,” he continued. “Urgent action is needed to address the catastrophe of homelessness and the untreated mentally ill, the systematic degradation of the American dream, violence on our streets, and suicidal border policies of the Biden administration. I’ve observed our current congresswoman long enough to know that she is unwilling to act and protect our community.”
The mayor of El Cajon since 2013, Wells began his public service as a planning commissioner in 2008, was elected to City Council in 2008 and became mayor in 2013.
