East County representation in this year’s college football postseason included five players: Auburn defensive back Keionte Scott (Helix Charter), Ohio State left tackle Josh Simmons (Helix Charter), SMU quarterback Owen Easley (Christian), Boise State left guard Garrett Curran (Granite Hills) and New Mexico State kicker Ethan Albertson (Grossmont College).
Auburn (6-6) will tackle Maryland (7-5) in Saturday’s Music City Bowl. Scott has appeared in nine games with 41 tackles.
Seventh-ranked Ohio State (11-1) will meet ninth-ranked Missouri (10-2) in Friday’s Cotton Bowl. A transfer from San Diego State University, Simmons (6-5, 310) is a starter for the Buckeyes.
Simmons started all 13 games for SDSU in 2022, playing 799 snaps before leaving the Aztecs after one season.
Twenty-fourth-ranked SMU (11-2) was scheduled to play Boston College (6-6) in Thursday’s Fenway Bowl.
Curran is a starter for Mountain West champion Boise State, which ended its season 8-6 following a 35-22 loss to UCLA (8-5) in last Saturday’s L.A. Bowl.
Albertson hit a 45-yard field goal and had three punts for 191 yards for the Aggies (10-5) as Fresno State (9-4) won 37-10 in last Saturday’s New Mexico Bowl.
