The City of La Mesa is hosting a virtual public meeting to provide community members an opportunity to learn about Segment 2 of the La Mesa Boulevard Complete Streets Plan Project.
The purpose of the Complete Streets Plan Project is to create a street that accommodates all users including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motor vehicle drivers.
Segment 2 of the project focuses on the transformation of La Mesa Boulevard from Jackson Drive to Interstate 8, and Grossmont Center Drive from the I-8 to Center Drive. It is expected to provide improved connections to key destinations including Grossmont Center, Grossmont Transit Station, Sharp Medical Campus, businesses, and neighborhood services, while advancing the City’s Climate Action Plan goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The project falls in line with the City’s Vision Zero Policy, which was adopted by the La Mesa City Council in Sept. 2018. This policy sets a goal to eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries by 2025 by placing safety at the forefront of infrastructure projects and promoting education and enforcement practices.
Vision Zero is not just a policy; it’s a strategy to safeguard all road users, ensuring safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for everyone.
Community input has been collected through an online survey and two events, including the La Mesa Farmer’s Market and the La Mesa Oktoberfest.
The meeting is scheduled for Oct. 30, to 7: 30 p.m. Join the zoom meeting here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89849433871.
