On Sept. 14, at approximately 2:10 p.m., deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 10800 block of Grand Fork Drive in Santee.
Upon entering the property, deputies located Gregory Roundy suffering from traumatic injuries.
Shortly afterward, deputies contacted Derek Spratley on the property, also suffering from visible injuries. Paramedics responded and pronounced Roundy deceased at approximately 2:30 p.m. Spratley was transported to a local hospital and was medically cleared the same day.
Spratley, 25, is a resident of Santee, was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail for the murder of his grandfather.
The circumstances and motive behind this incident remain under investigation. Based on the information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

THREATENING MALE
On Sept. 16, Detectives and School Resource Officers from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station investigated a school threat that was mailed to Valhalla High School in unincorporated El Cajon. Investigators identified Ray Talia, 37, as the suspect and linked him to additional threats that were mailed to a Chase Bank in the City of San Diego and to a private residence in El Cajon.
On Sept. 17, just after 7:30 p.m., Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s detectives and deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit served a search warrant on the 3100 block of Landis Street in the City of San Diego. During the search warrant service, detectives arrested Talia for two counts of making criminal threats.
Sheriff’s detectives obtained a gun violence restraining order prohibiting Talia from possessing firearms, and he was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
There is no current threat to the school or community at large.
DEPUTIES WANT HELP
Sheriff’s Traffic Investigators want the public’s help in finding the suspect in a deadly hit-and-run collision in Lemon Grove.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, just before 1:30 a.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff’s Substation received a call about a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Viewcrest Drive and Imperial Avenue.
When they arrived, deputies found a man lying on the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim’s identification is being withheld pending notification of his family.
At this time, there is no suspect or suspect vehicle description.
The investigation into the hit-and-run collision continues.
