Sharp Grossmont Express Care has reached a major milestone, serving its 100,000th patient since opening in April 2018, reflecting the growing demand for convenient, same-day care in East County.

Located on the campus of Sharp Grossmont Hospital, Express Care offers walk-in treatment for common illnesses and minor injuries, providing patients with a convenient option when they need prompt medical attention.

“Serving 100,000 patients shows how important accessible care has become for our community,” said Carolyn Fransway, RN, manager of Sharp Grossmont Express Care.

“When patients can’t get a same-day appointment with their primary care doctor, Express Care gives them a place to get timely treatment without going to the emergency department,” Fransway said. “Wait times are short, and most visits are completed within about an hour, so patients can get the care they need and get back to their day.”

Since opening, the clinic has treated thousands of East County residents for everyday health concerns such as coughs, sore throats, ear infections, minor injuries, rashes and back pain. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are also among the most common conditions treated — a reminder that many routine but uncomfortable issues can be quickly and effectively managed in a same-day care setting.

Originally known as the Care Clinic, Express Care was created to help patients receive the right level of care for non-emergency health concerns while easing pressure on the hospital’s emergency department. Its location next to the emergency department at Sharp Grossmont Hospital allows patients to quickly transition to a higher level of care if needed.
Patients can walk in for care or reserve a spot online, helping reduce wait times and improve access to treatment.
