Christian High School’s high-achieving girls soccer team graduates four seniors after the Lady Patriots earned the top seed in this year’s San Diego Section Division III playoffs and advanced as far as the playoff semifinals.
Christian posted an impressive 17-1-3 regular season record and ended the season 18-2-3 overall following a 6-0-2 finish in City League play.
Alexis Aaron is a four-year player who played mostly forward while Leah Kunde, Jenna Rubudoux and Stella Rubidoux all played one season.
“Leah only played one year with the high school team but helped us win our first league title since 2002,” CHS head coach Joel Waymire said. “She led the team in goals this season with 28 and was one of our team captains. Her speed, aggressiveness, and powerful shots attracted a lot of attention from opposing defenders.”
She also attracted the interest of college scouts and is heading to the University of Alabama next year to play women’s soccer for the Crimson Tide.
Sisters Jenna and Stella Rubidoux are both heading to play women’s collegiate soccer at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
“This was Jenna’s first and only year in high school soccer, but she made the most of it,” Waymire said. “She played center-back and defensive mid most of the season and was instrumental in the Patriots recording 11 shutouts. She also scored three times.”
She plans to major in foreign area studies in college.
“This was also Stella’s first and only year in high school soccer and she captained the team to the City League title,” Waymire added. “She played attacking midfield and forward, scored 20 goals, and collected 12 assists. Her incredible mix of speed and endurance created lots of anxiety in opponents this season.”
She plans to major in military and strategic studies.
