This motoring duo gave kids of all ages a chance for some airtime this summer hosting the Barona MX 2013 Summer Race Series that began on July 14 and finished Round 4 on Sunday.

This motoring duo gave kids of all ages a chance for some airtime this summer hosting the Barona MX 2013 Summer Race Series that began on July 14 and finished Round 4 on Sunday.
Robert (Bob) Prida, owner of R.P. Racing doubles as the racetrack manager at Barona MX Track. His son, Austin Prida, at his side, just as in the shop, is the race promoter and manager. Austin Prida said he wanted to create a summer series for all the kids out of school so they could come out on the weekends, race on Sundays and get them out of the house.
“I went to a lot of sponsors to get prizes and giveaways to give them the excitement of getting cool things,” he said. “In the series, if they raced through the entire event they qualified for a four foot championship trophy and a goodie back full of parts for their bikes, clothes and other things they need or want.”
Though aimed for school aged youth, this series wound up with kids ranging in age from 4-years-old to 57. Austin Prida said it was “Just tons of fun for the summertime.”
The Prida’s were asked by Barona to care, renovate and manage the track in February and after many hours of hard labor from sponsors and volunteers the track reopened just in time for the summer series.
Sponsored largely by Justified, a sportswear company that caters to the “culture of motocross, skateboarders, dunners, boaters, surfers and urban riders that push themselves to the limit.” Based in Yuma, AZ, owners Kevin and Dundee Dempsey are East County natives and said that when they heard the track was reopening, they jumped at the opportunity to bring racing back to their hometown.
“This is a tight knit community,” said Dundee Dempsey. “Everybody knows each other, looks forward to seeing each other and is like a traveling family.”
In the series championship, 16 championship trophies were earned, and Austin Prida and Dundee Dempsey gave away motocross gear, clothing and bike parts in a free drawing to all riders.
Next month Barona MX will hold a fall series and then a Fall National on Sept. 28-29.
