The future of small business is bright in Santee. Nearly 50 youth-run businesses filled the gymnasium at West Hills High School showing off products as diverse as donut shaped soaps, campfire starters made from flowers and micro-aquariums with live fish swimming around small glass bottles.
The young participants pitched their products and services to hundreds of visitors to earn a real profit while learning the lessons and social skills needed to run a business. Each entrepreneur was provided a one-day business license from the City of Santee signed by Santee Mayor John Minto. The kids were judged on business potential, innovative ideas, most impressive presentation, and all-around excellence. Some of the business-owners also made hundreds of dollars selling their products.
The Santee Children’s Business Fair was organized by Momentum Tutoring and supported by the County of San Diego’s K-12 Community Grant Program, the Kiwanis Club of Santee, and the Santee Chamber of Commerce. The participants were also recognized with certificates from County Supervisor Joel Anderson, California Senator Brian Jones, and Momentum
Tutoring.
