Answer—Their radio show on KNSJ-FM 89.1 is funny as heck.
Chris Clobber, Al Gavi, Diane Jean, Robert Weems, Young Lucas, Ikaika Patria and “Charlie the lovebird” record its weekly radio show, “You Missed,” in front of a live audience every Monday at 6 p.m. at internet cafe and bistro @Spacebar in La Mesa. If you cannot make the live spectacle, the recorded show airs three times each week on KNSJ. Listeners can tune in Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 7 pm.
“You Missed” fuses stand-up comedy’s immediacy with wacky news and music. Segments include political, surf, health and technology reports. There is also video during the live show every Monday.
“We wanted to do it in front of a live audience because we’re all stand-up comics,” said Jean who, along with Clobber, runs Brew Ha Ha Comedy in San Diego. “We like to do weird stories from around the world and put our comments into it.”
All those stories that make you giggle like a kid or laugh out loud like a goofball–that’s what “You Missed” covers.
“We’re all news junkies, and I’m the worst of the bunch,” said Clobber. “I listen to all the other comedy shows and local radio shows, so we try to find things people deliberately missed, hence the name of the show.”
On Monday, the show started with Clobber’s tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement of “all the wonderful people who make plastic products. Hey guys, thanks for the island! One day, we hope to have you retire there.”
Later, Gavi asked Young Lucas, after finishing his weekly surf report, about a recent snowboarding trip to Mammoth.
Gavi: “Do you feel uncomfortable, like, skiing on a volcano?”
Young Lucas: “Well, I snowboarded… so there.”
Gavi: “Oh, OK. Snowboarding on a volcano.”
Young Lucas: “I feel comfortable with that. Yes.”
