Recently the Lakeside River Park Conservancy held their annual Volunteer Awards event to honor all the volunteers who have donated a whopping 15,000 man hours for the River Park improvement in just one year!
More than 94 volunteers gathered at the Boll Weevil restaurant in Lakeside to enjoy a delicious special order breakfast and buffet as a thank you offering.

According to River Park volunteer coordinator Cindy Collins River Park would not have come to fruition if not for the many workers who donated their time and talent.
They watered and maintained 35,000 plants, patrolled the riverbed and made the area a safer place.
The AmeriCorp youth built rock and brush habitat for the native critters. Four hundred fifty children enjoyed the guided field trips through River Park.
Nineteen wild ducks were released in coordination with Project Wildlife and Cub Scout troop 342 built and installed 14 bird nesting boxes in the trees.
Special recognition for their volunteer efforts went to Bill Holmes for safety and tech support and Eric Webb for security awareness,
Sandra Richardson for Outreach Ambassador, Billy Ortiz for Prettiest Art Work, Marjorie Hatcher and Mary Schreader for Park Patrol,
Margaret Inman for plant nursery group and Carol Clarke for best all around volunteer.
Sally Nelson received the Joan Burnette Inspirational Award.
In 10 years she has logged in more than 2,280 hours of volunteerism.
