The La Mesa-El Cajon Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its winter celebration on Dec. 14. The branch is collecting donations of baby and adult diapers, pasta, canned tomatoes, soup, and monetary donations for their community impact opportunity. The donations will be sent to the Good Shephard Ministry Center in El Cajon.
The theme for the meeting is the 1950s. It was a decade known for its vibrant youth culture and rebellious spirit. It was when young people in the United States developed their own unique slang, creating a language that reflected their passion for music, fashion, and the pursuit of a good time.
Program entertainment will be provided by Cantate. Cantate Women’s Ensemble is a group of 22 Granite Hills High School Choir alumni and friends, brought together a year ago by retired GHHS Choir Director, Merryl Nelson. Granite Hills classes represented are from 1999 to 2012.
Branch meetings are open to the public and welcome new members and guests. All general meetings are held in King Hall at the Foothills United Methodist Church at 4031 Avocado Blvd. in La Mesa. Social half-hour begins at 9:30 a.m.
Correction: The original print story stated the event was on Dec. 9, and has been changed to Dec. 14 according to the AAUW.
