The San Diego Section playoffs are looking like a fit for East County baseball and softball teams. Twenty teams are entered in the Division I playoffs for baseball, eight advancing to the prestigious Open Division and the next 12 teams contending for the Division I championship.
Granite Hills (15-5), Grossmont (13-10), Christian (10-12), Santana (5-17) and Steele Canyon (4-18) are all guaranteed playoff berths regardless of their regular season or league finish. Granite Hills is contending for elite Open Division inclusion while Grossmont, Christian, Santana and Steele Canyon look to take their best shot at the Division I title.
Other East County teams contenting for division titles include
Valhalla (No. 1 in Division III), Monte Vista (No. 2 in Division IV), Mountain Empire (No. 1 in Division V), Mt. Miguel (No. 2 in Division V) and Liberty Charter (No. 3 in Division V-AA).
Top softball contenders include Granite Hills, El Capitan, Santana and Helix, all of which look to have Division I playoff seeds sewn up after the division is split off to form the Open Division.
Christian (No. 2 in Division II), Liberty Charter (No. 4 in Division IV) and El Cajon Valley (No. 3
in Division V-AA) also look to be CIF finalist contenders.
