El Cajon Valley High School and Monte Vista High School have been targeted by Westboro Baptist Church, a group most known for its anti-gay demonstrations across the country.

The group added to two schools to their picket schedule and their website says they will be in front of El Cajon Valley on Monday, March 25 from 7-7:30 a.m. and in front of Monte Vista on the same day from 8:50-9:20 a.m.

The reason for targeting these two locations is yet unknown.

El Cajon Chief of Police Jeff Davis said in a press release on March 15 that the department had received a letter from Westboro informing them of their intent to demonstrate in the city.

According to the press release, school officials are working with the police department to ensure the safety of students.

“The El Cajon Police Department and the Grossmont Union High School District plan to work in collaboration to ensure the safety of school staff and students, as well as all members of the community,” the release stated.
