Vaccine center opens in La Mesa

A walk-up COVID Super Vaccination station is now open from Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Grossmont Center in La Mesa.

The clinic is operated by Sharp HealthCare and will provide between 1,000 and 5,000 vaccination doses to anyone in California state priority group 1A, including healthcare workers, pharmacy staff and funeral workers.

Vaccines will also be provided to some individuals in priority group 1B-tier 1 including anyone aged 65 or older.

An appointment and proof of eligibility is required to receive the vaccine in La Mesa.

Workers in priority group 1A will need to bring an employee photo identification card, or a photo identification card as well as one of the following: a professional license; an employer-signed letter on facility letterhead; a paystub or time sheet from a healthcare employer.

Persons aged 65 or older in priority group 1B-tier 1 must provide a government-issued form of photo identification with a date of birth such as a driver’s license, identification card or passport.

The region has not yet received enough doses to provide vaccinations to all of priority group 1B-tier 2, including those who work in education, childcare, emergency services, food and agriculture.

San Diego County Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten said the county is prepared to vaccinate as many San Diegans as possible when more doses come to the region.

“We understand some people want to get vaccinated right away, but, unfortunately, we don’t have enough vaccines to give a dose to all San Diegans who want one,” Wooten said.

San Diego’s case rate, as calculated by California state officials, is currently 49.6 cases per 100,000 residents, and 12.6% of individuals who have been tested were positive. Those factors place the region in the most restrictive Purple tier.
