Three cheers for kids and not a fore in sight at Cottonwood Golf Course, as the 3rd Annual Lakeside Rodeo Golf Classic raised funds and glasses for East County’s active youth.

Charitable citizens and the El Capitan Stadium Association welcomed spring with a day of golf, games, raffles, and sun soaked spirit at the Cottonwood Golf Club on March 21. The cause, however, was not up for petition. Especially for Curt Smith, it’s always been about the kids.

“The [El Capitan] Stadium Association raises money and gives it right back to the kids. We put on the Rodeo, sponsor PLAY here in Lakeside, the Rodeo Queens. We love giving back to the kids, and this helps us do that,” he said.

Smith, Golf Chairman of the Stadium Association, emceed the evening’s event and heralded the winnings to an illustrious crowd. Silent auction and raffle items included corked bottles of San Diego wines, gift certificates to many local restaurants, and a free flight lesson amongst many other locally enjoyable, practical prizes.

Steady hands did not prevail against the 4th Hole’s Hole-in-One giveaway, where El Cajon Harley Davidson had prepared to deem one swinging sniper the owner of a free Harley motorcycle. As the bike was wheeled back home, however, so were the dashing dreams of many two-wheel troubadours.

None other than El Cajon Ford owner Paul Dyke, avid supporter of the Stadium Association, won the 50/50 drawing, a $444 pot split to the winner and the Lakeside Rodeo Queens. Dykes accepted his half and immediately returned it to Miss Rodeo Lakeside Amanda Hop, with the admiration of the audience. His act of charity embodies the mission of the Lakeside Rodeo Golf Classic, that in the end, everything is for a greater good. It’s for the kids.

El Capitan Stadium Association’s 51st Annual Lakeside Rodeo opens April 17-19, hosting many classic events including the opportunity to meet the famous Budweiser Clydesdales. For further information, visit www.lakesiderodeo.com, including how to donate and contribute to the Association.
