The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints honors outstanding teachers

The Annual Crystal Apple Awards honored two East County teachers on June 7 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This year’s Crystal Apple recipients were Bryan Palmer from El Capitan High School and Daniel Sutton from West Hills High School.

The Annual Crystal Apple Awards honored two East County teachers on June 7 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This year’s Crystal Apple recipients were Bryan Palmer from El Capitan High School and Daniel Sutton from West Hills High School.

Bryan Palmer, who has been teaching Mathematics at El Capitan for 22 years and Daniel Sutton, who has been teaching World History at West Hills for 11 years were chosen by LDS students in Santee and Lakeside that attend “seminary,” (bible study) at 6:00 a.m. every day prior to their high school classes.

Nominated are teachers that exemplify dedication to quality teaching and whom uphold and encourage students' moral values and high ethical standards.

Santee Stake President Randall Schimpf presented a clear apple-shaped trophy and certificate on behalf of the seminary students.

Several teachers were also finalists including Susan Crooks, Andrea Cooke, Robert Snider, Erin Shea, Noelia Lara and Dustin Millsap from El Capitan.Anne Foster, Courtney Pate, Matt Norris, Juan Naranjo, Carrin Edwards and Steve Lorentz from West Hills High School. Jamea Yaeger and Wade Vickery from Santana High School. LeAnne Ginn, Todd Bell and Jordie Lehr from Grossmont High School.
