Speaking hypothetically

Speaking hypothetically, if you were God, what would you do? I mean if you created Adam and Eve, the first two people, and gave them “freewill” to make choices then what would you do when they inevitably made wrong choices? Would you be surprised?

If you created men and women in a world that only had pure, edifying and constructive choices what kind of choice would that really be? Wouldn’t you have to allow for tainted, critical and destructive outcomes for a choice to exist?

Speaking hypothetically, if you were God, what would you do? I mean if you created Adam and Eve, the first two people, and gave them “freewill” to make choices then what would you do when they inevitably made wrong choices? Would you be surprised?

If you created men and women in a world that only had pure, edifying and constructive choices what kind of choice would that really be? Wouldn’t you have to allow for tainted, critical and destructive outcomes for a choice to exist?

Now picture yourself being outside the universe you created, outside the limits of space and time, where you would already know the outcome to every decision that had been, was being and would ever be made.  Nothing would surprise you.

Being a loving God you would have had a plan in place to remedy all destructive choices that would ultimately be made. You would have designed the cure before the need for it carefully inserting it into the world just at the right time.

Chances are that there would have been at least one family remnant, while not perfect, that would have lived their lives in a way that pleased you. This family would have been your choice through which you would have chosen to reveal yourself to the world.

You would have also wanted to send a message to the world to let them know that you existed. So you inspired men from this family to write down events that would take place in the future to help people believe that you were real.

This message would have told a story about how the only way to erase all these bad choices and destructive forces would be through sending yourself in the form of a man to the people you created. The world’s only true hope for freedom and the cure for our mistakes was only to be found in God’s pure blood that flowed in Jesus our Emmanuel.

“Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.

Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:  ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’" Luke 2:8-14.

Seven hundred  years before this angel and the other heavenly host appeared to the shepherds out in the fields of Bethlehem, the prophet Isaiah wrote “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”  Isaiah 7:13, 14.

Isaiah would go on to write about this coming King “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.” Isaiah 9:6, 7.

God did send a message from outside of time outlining His plan to redeem all people. He inspired men to retell this message until the time when they began to record their oral traditions on tablets of clay then eventually on scrolls of papyrus.

As twelve family clans grew into a nation this kingdom also began to deteriorate; turning back away from following the ways of their Creator. It wasn’t long before they began worshipping handmade gods of wood and stone in very destructive ways even to the point of burning their own children in sacrificial fires.

But God, not able to be surprised by anything, put into motion His plan to redeem the world. When the moment was right He sent His own Son to be born in Bethlehem. As conception through the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit began to take hold in the Virgin Mary, Jesus’ path to an old rugged Roman cross began to take shape and form.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.  Merry Christmas!
