Santee Street Fair 2014 and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2014–the common denominator is Madi Masek and her dancers at Santee’s Expressions Dance & Movement Center.

Masek worked the Expressions vendor booth at the Fair, fundraising the girl’s trip this fall to New York and being a part of the Spirit of America dance group. This was a glimpse of the diversity of vendors at the Fair.

Fair Chairman Pat Chambers with the Santee Chamber of Commerce said that the Fair has expanded to two days and the beer garden larger with an expected crowd of more than 60,000.

Fair vendors’ numbered around 300 and among them was Pickwick Players that will open “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the old Blockbuster location on Cuyamaca St. in August.

Miss Santee 2014, Elizabeth Shank said, “It reminds me of the (San Diego County) Fair. It smells really good.”

Aside from buying clothing and other items the Fair brought attendees up to speed on what’s up in their neighborhood businesses. One of which was Amber Georgi of Staump Music School and the music lessons she offers. Her instructors at the school performed its original music.

The Craft Beer Festival included locals like Twisted Manzanita Ales & Spirits, BNS Brewery & Distillery, and Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing. People could purchase different quantities of taste tests to sample the various craft beers.

Newcomer to the entertainment stage was Chris Rubio of Rubio’s Performing Arts of El Cajon and bringing what he calls “unconventional” music to the fair. His performers use barrels and other unconventional instruments to bring its crew’s music to life.

This is the sixth annual fair and next year’s fair will be among the fairest of the fair based on this year’s offerings.
