San Diego State University’s women’s soccer team swept all three of the Mountain West weekly awards after the Lady Aztecs swept Nevada-Reno (5-0 on Sept. 26) and UNLV (2-0 on Sunday) to kick off conference play with a 2-0 record at the Aztec Sports Deck.

Forward Denise Castro (San Ysidro High School) earned the Offensive Player of the Week award while goalkeeper Alexa Madueno (Woodland) earned Defensive Player of the Week award and Mia Lane (Eastlake High School) received the Freshman of the Week award.

SDSU and Colorado State are both 2-0 to start MW play.

The reigning conference Offensive Player of the Year, Castro collected three goals in the two matches — two in the win over Nevada and a third in Sunday’s victory to provide valuable insurance in what had been a tight match-up.

The three goals tied her with Hannah Keane for fifth all-time in program history with 74 points. Castro leads SDSU (4-5- 1) in scoring this season with six goals and 13 points, including two game-winning goals.

The two shutouts give Madueno 25 in her career — one behind Aubree Southwick to tie the school record at 26. She made 12 saves between the two games to increase her program record to 356 saves to become the first Lady Aztec goalkeeper to surpass 350 career saves.

One of five SDSU true freshmen this season, Lane entered the week with just three shots (two on net). That changed against Ne¬vada as the Chula Vista native scored her first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute on a pass from Riley Gumm (Aurora, Ill.). Lane proved she could do more than just score as five minutes later she found Boston Girman (Cotati) for her first career goal and Lane’s first career assist.

Lane joined Alexyz Nakamoto (Wahiawa, Hawaii) as the second Aztec freshman to score this season and the pair are the first two Lady Aztec freshmen to score in the same season since 2021 when Castro had eight goals and Alexys Ocampo (Ontario) scored once.

SDSU’s roster features eight San Diego County products, including six from South County. East County is represented by freshman Alexis Leath (West Hills).
