On June 26, at Santee City Hall, in cooperation with Waste Management, the City of Santee unveiled the Waste Management EV Hauler, a 2024 Peterbuilt 520 Electric Side Loader Collection Truck.

Santee is the first city in San Diego County to use an electric vehicle in its waste collection services.

The truck has some impressive features, including the capability to run nine to 12 hours, or 80 to 120 miles per charge. While it runs, the truck takes advantage of frequent stopping and starting by regenerative braking, allowing for energy efficiency and more smooth and quiet operation. This completely electric truck will be more efficient than the gas-powered vehicles and even require less maintenance because of the electric motor.

By using the electric collection truck, the City of Santee will be able to reduce the amount of air and noise pollution emitted when the truck services Santee.
