Santee sells early tix for October fundraiser

Halloween is on the distant horizon but the City of Santee is already selling early bird tickets for its popular annual Santee’s Brews & Bites Festival with a “fang-tastic” theme taking place at Town Center Community Park East on Oct. 18 from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Santee Teen Center, senior programs, recreational programming, special events, park improvements, and the Recreation Scholarship Program, which assists qualifying residents in participating in city recreation programs. Early bird tickets are available until June 30. A 21-years and older event, each ticket includes small bites and beverage tastings while supplies last and a commemorative sampling cup. Brews & Bites includes food, brews, a costume contest, and live music by BETAMAXX.

City of Santee Special Events Coordinator Becky Lowndes said the event is a fundraiser for Santee’s Park & Recreations Department.

“Which helps us fund different Recreation programs. Our voucher Incentive Program which provides a financial scholarship for qualifying residents as a quarterly stipend to help those who participate in our programs such as our Teen Center Summer Camp, senior programs and activities. We are able to fund park projects, recreational opportunities, and additional fundraising for community enhancements such as pickleball,” she said. “Brews & Bites is a wonderful opportunity for the public to get out and sample some delicious local brews and sample some amazing Santee and East County restaurants.”

Lowndes said the event is Halloween themed, so they encourage everybody to wear a Halloween costume.

“This is a fantastic way to kick off the fall, the spooky season, for you and your friends in East County, and a great way to give back to the community,” she said.

“This is our 15th annual event. It has transformed over the years from the Bluegrass Festival to the Twilight Brews & Bites, and now to the Brews & Bites Festival with a Halloween twist.”
