Ronald McDonald House raffles hope

Proceeds from the Giving Back Raffle support San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House, which provides a “home away from home” for families who have a critically ill or injured child in a local hospital. The House offers meals, lodging and a physical and emotional sanctuary to families at no cost.

In an early bird drawing, Lakeside resident Karena Johnston was selected as the second 2024 Giving Back Raffle winner, which gives her a choice of one of four luxury prizes: a 2024 BMW X2 M35i, a 2025 VW ID Buzz, a 116-day Princess World Cruise, an RV-7 sport airplane kit, or $50,000 in cash. At the time of print, Johnston had not decided which prize she would claim.

This year, to celebrate 20 years of giving back, raffle participants can also purchase add-on tickets for 20 consecutive days of $20,000 prize drawings. Beginning July 5, one daily winner can select a prize, like a riverboat voyage from Machu Picchu to the Amazon, a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu, or $20,000 in cash. Every participant is guaranteed to win with over $6 million in prizes available, ranging from luxury goods to sought-after vehicles and incredible getaways. This year’s grand prize is guaranteed to be at least $1 million cash. If more than 50,720 raffle tick ets are sold, the grand prize winner has the choice of up to $4 million cash or a multimillion-dollar, historic estate designed by renowned architect Irving Gill and located across the street from San Diego’s Balboa Park.

“The waitlist for our services continues to grow — currently we have 60 families waiting for a room to be near their hospitalized child,” said Chuck Day, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego in a press release. “The San Diego Giving Back Raffle and the generosity of its participants has allowed us to keep a growing number of families close when it matters most.”

For over 40 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego has provided a “home-away- from-home,” which keeps families close to one another and the care they need when their child is being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House was specifically designed to provide the necessities of home, including 57 guest suites, a family kitchen and a children’s play area, to help strengthen families and bolster their psychological well-being during challenging times regardless of their situation or ability to pay.

The Ronald McDonald House creates an emotional and physical sanctuary annually for nearly 15,000 family members. To learn more, visit rmhcsd.org. Raffle tickets start at $150 each.
