Led by Home Start, a nonprofit that provides outreach, housing and supportive services to homeless youth and parents held a walk and rally on Nov. 16, starting at the Little House Resources Services to the El Cajon Centennial Park in honor of November’s National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month. Local youth affected by homelessness shared their stories. According to the California Coalition for Youth, there are over 2,000 parenting youth and their children experiencing homelessness. Additionally, 12,172 unaccompanied youth under 25
experience homelessness. Federal statistics show California remains the state with the highest population of people experiencing homelessness overall and the highest number of unaccompanied homeless youth, and more than 1,500 youth are among the homeless in San Diego County.
