El Cajon’s Parkway Plaza is gearing up for a lively evening of music, performances, and community fun as it launches holiday celebrations. Parkway Plaza, El Cajon’s only indoor shopping destination, will host its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. Families and shoppers can enjoy festive activities, live entertainment, and plenty of photo opportunities as Santa makes his grand entrance—joined by a certain mischievous green holiday grump for extra laughs.
Guests can participate in holiday crafts hosted by El Cajon’s Parks & Recreation Department, enjoy balloon twisting and face painting, and take part in giveaways throughout the evening. Live entertainment will feature a high-energy circus performance by the Marinelli Circus and a holiday dance show presented by Dance & Arts Studios. The highlight of the night will be the lighting of Parkway Plaza’s dazzling Christmas tree, with Santa and the Grinch helping to flip the switch. Afterward, families can take photos with both characters.
The holiday spirit continues all season long with Photos with Santa at Center Court through Dec. 24. Visits require a $20 deposit, and reservations are encouraged. Parkway Plaza will also host themed events to make the season extra special. Pet Night on Monday, Dec. 1, welcomes furry friends to pose with Santa. A Sensory Friendly visit on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m., offers a calm setting for children with sensory sensitivities. Families can also stop by for cozy PJ Nights on select Wednesdays.
On Saturday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the mall will host Cookies with Santa free, family-friendly morning with crafts, storytime, a cookie station, and a visit from The Animal Pad’s rescue puppies. Parkway Plaza will also launch its “12 Days of Giveaways” starting Friday, Dec. 12, with gift cards and prizes from participating retailers announced via Instagram.
Shoppers can take advantage of extended Black Friday hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and explore popular stores, including Ulta Beauty, JCPenney, Burlington, and H&M. With tree lighting festivities, Santa visits, and community events for all ages, Parkway Plaza promises to be the heart of El Cajon’s holiday season.
