Ninety years for the Bostonia Woman’s Club

Bostonia Woman’s Club celebrated its 90th Anniversary on Sept. 5 with a special luncheon. El Cajon Mayor, Bill Wells joined in the celebration and presented the club with a Proclamation for the club’s educational enrichment and fun and fellowship.

“They are our unsung heroes, we know and we pay attention,” said Wells.

Bostonia Woman’s Club celebrated its 90th Anniversary on Sept. 5 with a special luncheon. El Cajon Mayor, Bill Wells joined in the celebration and presented the club with a Proclamation for the club’s educational enrichment and fun and fellowship.

President Pam Speake, accepted the proclamation and introduced other special guests, including several past presidents. They were Linda Cowle, Roberta Randazzo, Carla Nowano, Mary Galdon, Mary Ann Evans, Brenda Brown, Cheri Rose and Barbara Lanphere.

A majority of the members remained members throughout their lives but Vi Moore was the member with the most years of service, a whopping 62 happy membership years.

“Helping Hands and Caring Hearts” is the motto of the service club.

On display was a handmade quilt that this club had made back in the 1960s. It depicts some of the historic landmarks in El Cajon Valley and is on display at the Knox Hotel, home to the El Cajon Historical Society.

Some of the projects the club has worked on include: Getting schools built, building playgrounds, USO, Salvation Army, Care kits for victims of domestic violence, the Linus Project, which gives blankets to homeless children, Relay For Life, cancer research, Ronald McDonald House, a guest house for senior citizens, a domestic violence shelter, CHP 11-19 Foundation which provides benefits to CHP employees and their families, just to name a few.

The Bostonia Woman’s Club will be hosting a fundraiser to help with its community service projects. It will be a Bunko Party on Oct. 21 at the El Cajon VFW Hall. Guests are welcome.

If you would like to join this friendly bunch of hard working ladies and to help make your community a better place to live then you would be welcome to come to their meetings which are held at the Bostonia Recreation Center on the first Wednesday of each month.
