New website aims to keep people housed

Housing Justice Collaboration announced the launch of a new website to help tenants in San Diego to remain housed. The website provides information about resources for free legal clinics, free phone assistance, emergency rental assistance resources, publicly owned affordable housing availability, and numerous other resources in eight languages. The Housing Justice Collaborative, a program of Legal Aid Society of San Diego, is a coalition of eight non-profit agencies committed to preventing evictions and reducing homelessness by providing up to date information and resources for tenants in San Diego County.

“There are thousands of San Diegans struggling to stay housed and avoid homelessness. We formed the Housing Justice Collaborative and created its new website to help these tenants on the brink of homelessness,” said Joanne Franciscus, CEO of the Legal Aid Society of San Diego in a press release. “We want tenants to know that they are not alone and there are resources out there to help them.”

The mission of the Collaborative is to coordinate and expand resources and data to prevent evictions and the long-term harm of homelessness. The Collaborative works towards system change that empowers tenants, expands public awareness, reduces human and public costs, and builds economic and racial justice.

“The Collaborative provides accurate information to tenants through online and in-person ‘Know Your Rights’ workshops, attorney-verified legal information, and other community resources, such as information about local emergency rental assistance funds, to help tenants in need,” stated said Laura Ann Fernea, HJC Coordinator.
